More gloss on NC Lacquer than Rotenstone?

    Hey fellas,

So today on the guitar build, I rubbed out the lacquer up to Rottenstone aiming for a pretty shiny finish. What I have is smooth and soft to the touch but I wouldn't call it shiny - i'd call it a little dull, to be honest. It looked much better when the surface was wet and I'd like to get closer to that.

Seeing as I'm foolishly asking this NOW, instead of practicing on scrap months ago, I will relinquish any credibility I might have on finishing. LOL

What's my next step, fellas? Automotive polish? Any recommendations?

I would recommend buffing with buffing compound and a soft buffing wheel.

    Think Beal buffing.

Personally - I would finish it off by buffing with Paste Wax.

Wax it and buff it out and see if you like the look. It's easily reversible if it's not what you want so it's a good place to start. If that doesn't get it done strip the wax with paint thinner and move on to buffing with a high quality buffing compound like Leo suggested. Otherwise it's finding somebody with high quality spray equipment to try to get an off the gun finish.

Finishing is my weak point. Well, I have a lot of weak points when it comes to woodworking, but finishing is probably the weakest. From the angle of the camera the guitar is looking fabulous though.

Speaking of the camera angle - here's where I've left off so far...

    These:

incredible finishing pads. I can't say enough good things about them. Amazon, ebay, rockler, etc. In addition, I know a guy who mixes rottenstone with wax and claims incredible results.

I would try wiping the Lacquer with a clean "T" shirt material pad and a bit of Lacquer thinner. Just a quick moistening wipe and then let it dry/cure for a few hours.
