    Hello. I'm a new member

I am presently vacationing in Vancouver Island. So much wood here! When I'm not turning, I am reading about it! Can't get enough! Looking forward to any tips or comments.

Lemme be the first (or nearly the first, if somebody else's typing ahead of me) to say "Hiya, Joanne!".

Is your headstock reversed, or is that just some variety of bowl lathe I've never seen before, something that has a big cantilevered mass to counter the out-of-balance rootball before it's round enough to run smoothly?

    Anyway... good ta' meet ya!

This mystery wood was given to me and smelled great as I turned it.almost like incense! Did a woodburned edge along the outside. Still needs to be varnished.

That wood looks a great deal like black cherry wood... which DOES smell neat while you're turning it.

Welcome Joanne. I also think it looks like cherry. Looks like you did a great job on it. Do you belong to an AAW wood turning club.

    Welcome to the forum, Joanne!

Nice looking bowls there....to say the least. I've never seen (or even heard of) a burned edge. I think it's pretty cool.

I hope to be a bowl guy one of these days. I just can't get out of this flatwork rut yet.
